What does the Bible say about temptation?

Jesus in the wilderness
Matthew 4 and Luke 4 narrate Jesus’ temptation: bread, spectacle, and kingdoms. He answers with Deuteronomy. Hebrews 4:15: we have a high priest who was tempted in every way, yet without sin. Temptation is not itself transgression.

Trial, desire, and escape
James 1:13–15: God does not tempt to evil; desire conceives and gives birth to sin. 1 Corinthians 10:13: no temptation is unique, God is faithful, and there is a way of escape. The verse is comfort for the ordinary fight, not a promise that the desired object will be granted.
